10.19.18 SWAT Standoff in Mt. Belvieu (Update: Standoff has Ended) New Update 10.22.18

10.22.18  (From Lt. Steve Dorris/BPD —

Regarding the incident in Mont Belviue. Baytown SWAT and Baytown Hostage Negotiators, were requested by Mont Belviue Police after they responded to a disturbance involving a man and two women at a mobile home in the 1500 block of Oliver. Upon arrival SWAT personnel learned that the male subject had assaulted at least one of the females and was now barricaded inside the mobile home, refusing to come out. Both females were ultimately able to make it out of the mobile home unharmed. SWAT personnel surrounded the residence while Negotiators made numerous attempts to make contact with the suspect via phone and by loud hailing several times, to no avail. Due to the fact the suspect would not communicate with Negotiators, SWAT personnel were forced to escalate their tactics and deployed a chemical agent (gas) into the mobile home, again with no response by the suspect. After several more attempts to loud hail the suspect out were unsuccessful, SWAT personnel were forced to make a deliberate entry into the mobile home and conduct a methodical search for the suspect, ultimately finding him hiding inside a bathroom cabinet. The suspect was taken into custody at that point with no further incident and turned over to Mt. Belviue Police. There were no injuries as a result of the SWAT operation.
