04.09.19 Child Struck by SUV Today

2019-20671 Child struck by SUV on Baker Road Today at 3:10 p.m. Baytown Officers responded to an auto pedestrian accident in the 3500 block of West Baker Road. Initial report was that the child was crossing West Baker Road, unattended, when it was struck by a Nissan Juke Sport Utility Vehicle. Officers arrived on scene to find a 5 year old Hispanic male suffering from apparent head and leg injuries as a result of being struck by the SUV. Due to the age of the child and the nature of the injuries he was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston; however the extent and severity of his injuries is unknown at this time. Based on the preliminary investigation it appears the child may have wandered away from his nearby home through an unlocked door while the mother was distracted with one of her other children. The driver of the SUV, a 20 year old Baytown woman, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. There were no signs of intoxication or impairment on the part of the driver. Baytown Police Accident Reconstruction Officers will be conducting a complete and thorough investigation of the accident and the circumstances surrounding how the 5 year old wandered away from home and to West Baker Road.
