07.24.21 Three Stories: Baytown and Chambers County

Story 1: Man revived and airlifted to Houston hospital after attempted suicide.

Story 2:  Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers arrested a Baytown man, Thursday, July 22, 2021, for a felony offense after he fled from law enforcement officers on Interstate 10.

 The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 11:54 p.m., a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass was speeding west on I-10 at exit 3180. The Trooper attempted to stop the driver when he exited onto the frontage road.

 The driver disregarded the Trooper’s emergency lights and siren and maintained a high rate of speed southbound on the frontage road. As the driver approached a construction zone, the vehicle was driven off the road into the tree line. The driver fled on foot and was later taken into custody after the DPS helicopter located the driver in a tree.  

Charles Puckett, 55, from Baytown, Texas, was arrested for felony evading and outstanding warrants and transported to the Chambers County jail. 

Story 3: CHAMBERS COUNTY – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating an auto-pedestrian fatality crash in Chambers County that occurred Saturday, July 24 on Farm-To-Market 2354 near mile marker 474. 

The preliminary investigation indicates, at approximately 2:57 a.m., a pedestrian walked into the roadway and was struck by a 1995 GMC pickup. 

The driver was identified as Willie Downhour, 67, from Baytown, Texas.

The pedestrian, Trisha Cooper, 44, from Sheridan, Arkansas, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Judge Larry Cryer of Chambers County.
