07.12.21 Mohamed Hismath Charged with Capital Murder

Detective Lance Watkins Public Information Officer (281) 420.6635 office E-mail: lance.watkins@baytown.org Homicide Case 2021-33791 Rick Davis City Manager On July 11th at approximately 11:30 a.m., Baytown Police responded to a call regarding an unresponsive female at The Creekside Apartments located at 3120 Decker Drive. Upon arrival, officers observed a female laying in front of an apartment with blood near her neck area. The scene was secured and Homicide Detectives responded to the location. During the Detectives preliminary investigation, they learned that 62-year-old Sabara Umma had been kidnapped by her estranged husband, later identified as 55-year-old Mohamed Hismath, while she stood outside her residence in Baytown. Ms. Umma was speaking with another relative on her cellphone when Mr. Hismath grabbed her from behind, forced her into his nearby vehicle and drove to his apartment complex on Decker Drive. Mr. Hismath removed Ms. Umma from his vehicle and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, Mr. Hismath stabbed Ms. Umma multiple times in the upper torso region and neck area before fleeing the scene. Baytown communications received a call stating that a man, driving a gray Toyota, approached him near his church and said his wife was dead. The caller persuaded Mr. Hismath to stay with him to talk, which allowed several patrol units to arrive and locate Mr. Hismath in the driver’s seat of a 2007 Gray Toyota Matrix. Mr. Hismath was arrested and blood was observed on his hands as well as stains on his shirt. Detectives interviewed Mr. Hismath who confessed to the murder of Ms. Umma. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted the charge of Capital Murder.
