Mother shot and killed during violent home invasion **UPDATE – 8-12-20

On August 5th the Baytown Police Department announced that our Detectives had presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office/Special Crimes Division, the facts and evidence we had uncovered surrounding the tragic and senseless murder of 40-year-old Margarita Villalon, who was shot and killed in the early morning hours of August 3rd . At that time, charges were accepted on three of the suspects, who were in custody for their roles in the home invasion and subsequent murder of Margarita. Josue Lopez was initially charged with Capital Murder, while Kain Lopez and a 16-year-old were charged with Aggravated Robbery. At the time of that announcement, we also advised Detectives were in the process of interviewing one additional adult, a 19-year-old male. After that interview, a further review of the facts and circumstances surrounding this murder and in consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, the charges on Josue Lopez were amended to include an additional charge of Aggravated Robbery. Furthermore, the charges against Kain Lopez and the 16-year-old were upgraded to Capital Murder and Aggravated Robbery as well. Detectives have also charged the 19-year-old, identified as Gregory Donnell, with Capital Murder and Aggravated Robbery for his role in the home invasion and murder. Investigators with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force subsequently took Gregory Donnell into custody early Tuesday morning at his residence in Baytown. While our investigation is ongoing, we remain committed to our mission, which is to bring all of those involved in Ms. Villalon’s murder to justice.
