Story 2: (Update/Official BPD Press Release —

Official Press Release from BPD concerning dramatic incident at Goose Creek Park on Wednesday evening (See our previous post) —
2018-38070 – On June 27th at 4:15 p.m., officers responded to a the Goose Creek Park in reference to a subject, a 27 year old Baytown man, who had contacted the police department expressing he was in mental distress and needed help. When officers arrived they found the subject, who they were familiar with from previous similar encounters, under the pavilion near the pool and as officers approached the subject he jumped onto a table at which time officers noticed he had a bottle of beer in one hand and a handgun in his in his waist band. Officers attempted to open a dialogue with the subject, however refused to follow their commands and instead began trying to entice the officers to shoot him. After several attempts to gain compliance verbally failed, officers deployed an OC Chemical Agent (pepper spray) as well as a less lethal “bean bag” round at the subjects torso to gain compliance, neither of which seemed to have any effect on the subject. The subject then retreated and barricaded himself in of the bathrooms. Officers continued to use voice commands to attempt to convince the subject to exit the bathroom, which he refused to do. Eventually the subject did throw the gun out of the bathroom, however he continued to refuse to exit and comply with the officers’ commands. At this point officers and a K-9 entered the bathroom to attempt to take the subject into custody, however he continued to resist officers which led to one of the officers being forced to deploy his department issued Taser, which resulted in officers finally being able to detain the subject. Based on the subject’s mental state he was transported to the San Jacinto Hospital where an emergency detention order was completed and the subject was released to hospital staff for mental evaluation. It was also determined that the handgun was actually a Co2 BB Gun.
