03.05.18 Teen Hit by Train Monday Morning (Update: Press Release)

Update:  Official BPD Press Release:

Today at approximately 12:15 p.m., Baytown Police and Baytown Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the 1400 block of Massey Tompkins in reference to a male who had fallen off of a train. Upon arrival it was learned that two teens, a 17 year old and an 18 year old, were walking in the 1400 block of Massey Tompkins, on their way to Barkaloo Park. The two teens decided to jump on the moving train and ride it to speed up their travel to the park. Unfortunately as they did this, the 18 year old, identified as Christian Lara of Baytown, apparently fell off of the train, causing one of his legs to fall onto the train tracks which resulted in his leg being run over by the train, severing his leg near the knee. Mr. Lara was transported via life flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston to be treated for his injuries and at last report was still in surgery. The train came to a stop a short distance later and remained stopped until Union Pacific Railroad Investigators, who will be leading the investigation, arrived on scene to conduct their investigation into the incident.
