03.10.15 Jose Juan Chavez in Custody

Jose Juan Chavez

JOSE JUAN CHAVEZ
CHARGED WITH CAPITAL MURDER

As the search continued for leads into the murders of Baytown teenagers Jarvis Lamont Morgan Jr. and Alejandro Castillo, Baytown detectives have been able to gather sufficient evidence that rises to the level of “Probable Cause” to file the charge of Capital Murder on suspect number 4, Jose Juan (Chop) Chavez, who was previously listed as a person of interest. This charge on Chavez was filed through the Chambers County District Attorney’s Office.
Jose Juan Chavez is believed to have been directly involved in the abduction and kidnapping of both victims and was complicit in transporting them forcefully against their will into Chambers County, where he and others knowingly stood by as the two teens were brutally murdered.
Baytown detectives developed information during the day on Tuesday that Jose Chavez was still in the Harris County area, and was believed to be making plans to flee to avoid apprehension.
As detectives continued to follow leads and gather information through numerous interviews, it was soon learned that Chavez had arrived early this morning at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Massey Tompkins in Baytown. Baytown SWAT surrounded the apartment and apprehended Chavez after he complied with requests to surrender. He will be booked into the municipal jail and interviewed by detectives.
