09.18.22 Major Accident/Three Airlifted/Baytown (Update: Press Release Added)

2022-47282 – Motor Vehicle Fatality
 
On Sunday, September 18, 2022, Baytown Police were dispatched to vehicle driving the wrong way on Interstate 10 in the 10000 block East Bound at 0243  hours. Baytown dispatch was later advised of a major crash in the 6100 block of East Bound at 0248 hours involving the wrong way driver. Officers later arrived to find that wrong way vehicle was a 2000 Mazda 626 traveling West bound in the center lane of Interstate 10 East and struck a 2006 Scion XA. (2022-47287) A 2015 Dodge Challenger was traveling behind the Scion East Bound and attempted to avoid the crash and was struck by a 2017 White Volvo Tractor Truck and Trailer also traveling East in the outside lane. The driver of the Challenger a 38 year old female from Baytown, was injured during the crash and was treated at the scene by Baytown Fire/EMS. The driver of the Tractor Trailer was not injured. The driver of the Scion a 21 year old female of Port Arthur and her passenger a 20 year old female also of Port Arthur were injured and transported to Herman Memorial by Life Flight. The driver of the Mazda was a 55 year old female from Baytown was also transported to Herman Memorial by Life Flight and was later pronounced deceased. Baytown Collision Reconstructionist were called to the scene to investigate the crash.
 This crash is still under investigation.



This major accident occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday morning, September 18th. Three victims were airlifted to a Houston hospital. One victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital. The accident involved three vehicles and an 18-wheeler. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. Check back for the official Baytown police press release.
