07.04.19 Major Accident with Multiple Injuries Thursday Night in Baytown (Update Added/Press Release)

This accident with multiple injuries occurred in Baytown around 10:30 pm Thursday night, July 4th. Check back for the official Baytown Police press release.

2019-39378 –  On July 4th at 10:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to a major accident in the 1600 block of West Texas Avenue.  Upon arrival officer learned that the suspect vehicle, a white Chevy Cobalt, had struck a vehicle, a white Ford Fusion, while traveling northbound on S. SH 146 near Missouri Street. The driver of the Ford Fusion, a 67 year old female, was uninjured. The suspect vehicle failed to stop after that crash, fleeing the scene. A witness followed the suspect vehicle, and observed it exit W. Texas and turn eastbound. The suspect vehicle traveled east on West Texas to the 1600 block, where it struck another vehicle, a Gray Chevrolet Equinox occupied by two adults, a 26 year old male driver and a 21 year old pregnant female passenger as well as two small children, a 1 year old male and a 3 year old female. All of the occupants of the  Equinox were transported to Memorial Hermann by ambulance to be treated for their non-life threatening injuries. 

After striking the Equinox and knocking it approximately 40 feet, the suspect vehicle then goes up onto the curb, where it strikes two teenage males, a 14 and a 15 year old. The 14 year old was pinned between the suspect vehicle and a wrought iron fence, sustaining a severe foot injury and as a result he was flown to Memorial Hermann. While the 15 year old was also struck, his injuries did not appear to be serious so he was transported to Houston Methodist Baytown by his family to be treated.  

The driver of the suspect vehicle, a 27 year old male, suffered a possible broken hip and a lacerated liver and was transported to Bayshore Hospital to be treated. At last report he remains in the hospital however his condition is unknown. Baytown Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accidents and whether or not the driver of the suspect vehicle was intoxicated at the time. Should the driver of the suspect vehicle be found to in fact have been intoxicated he could face multiple felony charges. Investigation is ongoing.
