Structure Fire in the 1700 block of Missouri Street
Baytown Fire Department and Baytown Police are currently on
scene of a structure fire at a residence in the 1700 block of
Missouri Street. The call came in at approximately 2:20 a.m.,
this morning. Upon arrival on scene Fire Department found the
structure fully engulfed. As they began attacking the fire they
forced open the front door to the residence and found a subject
deceased on the floor near the front door, which prompted Police
to respond.
Arson investigators are on scene and will be working to
determine the cause of and origin of the fire. Homicide
Detectives are also on scene as well as Harris County Institute of
Forensic Science, to determine the cause of death of the subject
found inside the residence.
The homeowner is an 82 year old male and preliminary
investigation indicates he was dropped off at the residence last
night by family members, leading investigators to believe that
the deceased person inside may be the homeowner. The structure
is unstable due to damage from the fire, making it difficult for
investigators to gain entry into the residence at this time;
therefore they will most likely be on scene for several more
hours as they work to make the structure safe enough for
investigators to complete their investigation.
The public is asked to avoid the area as there will be emergency
personnel and equipment working in the area for at least the next
several hours.
