05.29.18 Two Stories: Break-in in Local Businesses and Female Assaulted

2018-31456 – On May 29th at 2:43 a.m., officers responded to a report of an alarm at the Old Navy clothing store located in the 4600 block of Garth Road. Upon arriving on the scene officers located a vehicle parked out of sight as if someone was trying to conceal it. While on scene a second alarm call came in from Petco, which was in the same center. With the ground level being secure, officers climbed up on the roof to check it. While on the roof officers noticed there was an hatch on the roof that appeared to have been accessed into the Petco store and a ladder leading down into the store. As officers checked the hatch and looked down into the store, they noticed a Hispanic male inside the store that obviously was not supposed to be inside the store. Officers ordered the suspect, identified as 28 year old Ray Hernandez of Baytown, up the ladder where he was taken into custody. The businesses were subsequently cleared and no one else was located inside the stores. Officers contacted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and advised them of the case at which time charges were accepted on Mr. Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez was transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked on those charges.

2018-31510 – On May 29th at 9:38 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault at a residence in the 6700 block of Bayway Drive, of which the offender was reportedly still on location. Upon arrival officers contacted the complainant who advised she and her common law husband of three years had been in an argument earlier in the morning. The argument turned physical and resulted in the husband, identified as 38 year old Juan Vasquez, holding the complainant down on the bed and choking her with an electrical cord.  The complainant was able to escape her husband’s grasp and make her way to another room where she called the police. Mr. Vasquez was found hiding in a crawl space under the stairs, one which officers had to force open due to Mr. Vasquez refusing to follow officer’s commands to exit. Mr. Vasquez was subsequently charged with Assault Family Violence/ Impeding Breathing (Choking) and booked into the Baytown Jail.
