02.21.18 Brandon Alejandro Flores Extradited Back to Texas

February 21, 2018

Sheriff Brian C. Hawthorne and District Attorney Cheryl Lieck report that on today’s date Feb 21, 2018, Brandon Alejandro Flores, 23 of Dayton, Chambers County TX, was taken into custody at George Bush Intercontinental Airport after having been extradited from Mexico by the United States Marshal Service. Flores was arrested on two counts of capital murder by indictment of a Chambers County Grand Jury.

On Feb 18, 2015, Alejandro Chavez, 18 of Baytown, and Jarvis Morgan, 17 of Baytown, were reported missing to the Baytown Police Department. In early March of 2015, the bodies of Chavez and Morgan were found in Double Bayou in Southern Chambers County by deputies of the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and Baytown Police Department. Both individuals had been shot and their bodies weighted before being dumped off of a bridge.

Chambers County deputies along with Baytown Police Department were soon able to identify three suspects in this homicide. Jose Juan Chavez, 20 of Baytown, and Valentin Jose Lazo, 31 also of Baytown were arrested in mid-March in the city of Baytown, Texas, each on two counts of captial murder. Both Chavez and Lazo are currently in custody at the Chambers County Jail awaiting trial. Information received by detectives indicated that Brandon Alejandro Flores had fled to Mexico in an attempt to avoid arrest in this case.

Through an exhaustive effort by the United States Marshal Service, Flores was eventually located in Mexico and taken into custody by Mexican authorities.

Sheriff Hawthorne stated that without the tireless efforts of Gary Blankinship, the United States Marshal for the Southern district of Texas, and his entire agency, Flores would never have been captured and extradited back to the United States to answer to these charges. Sheriff Hawthorne also would like to thank the Baytown Police Department and he praises the close working relationship with that agency in the investigation of these murders.
