12.20.16 Man Charged with Felony Evasion


2016-70492 – On December 18th at 12:17 a.m., officers were dispatched to 600 Littlewood in reference to a person with a weapon. Upon arrival officers observed a black Chevrolet Avalanche, which was said to be the suspect’s vehicle, parked at the intersection of Long Meadow and Littlewood. Standing outside the vehicle was a black male matching the description given of the suspect. The subject, later identified as 38 year old Derick Samuels of Baytown, was in an engaging in a verbal altercation with a group of subjects. As officers began giving verbal commands to all of the subjects, in an attempt to control the disturbance, Mr. Samuels backed away from officers and jumped into the driver seat of the black Avalanche and fled the scene. Officers immediately activated their emergency lighting and attempted to get Mr. Samuel to stop, to no avail. Mr. Samuels continued to flee from officers through the neighborhood, ultimately stopping in the 700 block of Northbend, where he exited the vehicle and surrendered without further incident. The subjects Mr. Samuel was arguing with had told officers that he had displayed a handgun, however no weapons were found on Mr. Samuel or in his vehicle. Mr. Samuels was ultimately transported to the Baytown Municipal Jail where he was booked and charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
