bicyclist was struck by a Chevrolet SUV

On October 12 at 12:04 p.m., Baytown Officers responded to the 6800 block of Thompson Road in reference to an auto pedestrian accident. Upon arrival officers learned that a bicyclist was struck by a Chevrolet SUV in the intersection of the east bound service road of Interstate 10 and Thompson Road. During the initial investigation it was learned that the driver of the SUV was traveling east bound on the service road, approaching Thompson Road, with a green light. A 59 year old Baytown man, who was riding his bicycle, was traveling north bound on Thompson Road, also approaching the intersection and a red light. The bicyclist entered into the intersection, into the path of the SUV, resulting in the bicyclist being struck by the SUV. The bicyclist, who suffered critical head trauma as a result of the accident, was flown to a Houston area hospital to be treated for his injuries. His condition is unknown at this time. The accident is being investigated by the Baytown Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team. No charges have been filed as a result of this accident.
