On Wednesday June 8th at 9:01 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at 3111 Columbia Street, League of Women Voters Park. Upon arrival they discovered two shooting victims, 18 year old brothers Juan and Luis Huerta of Baytown. Luis was pronounced dead at the scene. Juan had been shot multiple times and was flown to a Houston hospital where he is in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation shows Juan and Luis met an acquaintance at the park to purchase drugs from him. 17 year old Baytown man Gullermo Tommy Mena was accompanying the acquaintance. During the transaction, Gullermo displayed a handgun and began robbing the brothers. Gullermo shot Luis and Juan before fleeing on foot into a nearby neighborhood along with the acquaintance. Gullermo was subsequently identified by Juan in a photo lineup. He was located at his residence at 2:55 a.m. this morning and arrested when he was found to be in possession of marijuana. Gullermo was interviewed and confessed to shooting the brothers. Gullermo is being held in our jail while detectives continue this investigation.
