01.18.23 Two Stories: Evading and Auto Pedestrian Accident

 
Story 1: 2023-2365 – Evading Garth at Decker
Officer observed a black 2019 lifted Chevrolet Silverado 1500 attempting to run another vehicle off the roadway.
Officer activated the unit’s emergency lights and sirens and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Driver of truck refused to stop and ran a red light. A pursuit ensued.
Driver made a wide turn, struck a center curb, causing the front driver tire to deflate.
Driver continued operating vehicle with its rim throwing sparks and debris. Driver almost struck a marked patrol unit and then ran an additional red light.
Driver continued, until coming to a complete stop after striking the center concrete barrier on I-10 westbound. Both driver and passenger jumped out of vehicle and begin fleeing on foot – jumping the center concrete barrier, running all lanes of traffic, evading into a dark wooded area.
Driver was detained without any further incident and identified as 24-year-old Eddie Cardenas of Baytown.
Officer deployed K9 on passenger, 24-year-old Shaqkeem Gordon of Baytown.
Gordon was apprehended by K9.
Highlands Medic #37  treated Gordon’s K9 injuries.
Case Status: Harris County ADA accepted charges for Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle on Cardenas and Evading on Foot on Gordon. Both males were transported to Baytown jail.
 
Story 2
An auto pedestrian accident occurred on I-10 West at Ellis School Road on Monday, January 16, 2023. A 40-year-old female was struck by a pickup that left the scene. The female was transported by Highlands EMS to a Houston hospital where she remains in critical condition. Harris County Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone with information regarding the incident call 713-274-7400.
