09.06.22 Eighteen-Year-Old Led Baytown Police in Pursuit

2022-43964 – Flight/Escape
Officer observed two vehicles traveling northbound on Garth Rd. at a high rate of speed.
A white passenger car was seen being followed by a black Acura.
Officer attempted to catch up to the vehicles to initiate a traffic stop; both cars continued.
Officer activated emergency lights and sirens. 
Acura began to pick up speed and when the driver crossed over N. Main St., the car lost control. 
White passenger car continued and fled the scene.
Acura slid off the roadway and into the grass in front of the 200 block of E. Cedar Bayou Lynchburg Rd and wrecked into a tree.
Driver of Acura got out of vehicle and began fleeing on foot.
A perimeter was set.
Male was located and taken into custody without incident.
Male identified as Baytown resident, 18-year-old Miguel J. Cruz.
A cellphone and an undetermined amount of cash was found inside the black Acura.
Cruz was transported to Houston-Methodist Baytown hospital to treat the injuries he obtained when he lost control of vehicle.
Cruz was release from hospital and transported to Baytown jail.
Case Status: Harris County ADA accepted the felony charge of evading against Cruz.
