Baytown Police Arrest Murder Suspect

2010-24492

On June 17, 2010, Baytown police officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of North Street in reference to a woman on 911 pleading for help. Upon arrival, 71 year-old Julia Muckleroy was found to have been stabbed in the neck.  Muckleroy was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.  Her van was missing from her driveway and was later recovered on Danubina Street in Baytown.

An exhaustive investigation was conducted, including the discovery of a suspect’s DNA from Muckleroy’s residence.  The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has confirmed that DNA from SMITH, ISAAC NORVELL B/M 07/05/1964 was present in key locations within the crime scene.

On August 20th, a warrant for Capital Murder was issued for Smith’s arrest.  Smith was arrested later that night by Baytown police detectives.

Smith was interviewed by Houston area media outlets on the morning of the homicide.  He was filmed crying and making statements about what a “good person” the victim was.
