01.27.18 Hot Pursuit in Baytown on Friday

2018-5226 – On January 26th at 1:25 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Impala in the 6200 block of Bayway. The vehicle initially pulled into the Stripes parking lot at which time the officer exited his vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as 33 year old Raleigh Amey of Baytown. As the officer was talking with Mr. Amey, the officer noted the smell of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle and asked Mr. Amey to exit the vehicle. Mr. Amey, instead of complying, decided to flee the scene in his vehicle. Mr. Amey exited the parking lot of the Stripes and fled north on Spur 330, before throwing a black bag out of the car. The officer returned to his patrol unit and pursued Mr. Amey west onto Interstate 10 to Monmouth Road exit where Mr. Amey took the U-turn and headed east, back towards Baytown. As the pursuit made it back to Baytown, Mr. Amey traveled south on the service road of Spur 330 to the 7000 block where he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole. Mr. Amey then exited his vehicle and fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by other officers in the area. The black bag was located and found to contain approximately one pound of marijuana, six and a half grams of cocaine and fourteen grams of ecstasy. Mr. Amey was transported to the Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital to be treated for a laceration he suffered to his head as a result of the crash and was subsequently transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked and charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. Mug shot attached.
