Police capture bank robbery suspect
On January 6th at 10:40 a.m., Baytown Police responded to a robbery
at the Texas First Bank located in the 800 block of Rollingbrook. The
suspect in this robbery fled the scene prior to police arriving in what
witnesses described as a black SUV that had one of the passenger
windows covered.
At 11:32 a.m., while officers were finishing up the robbery
investigation on Rollingbrook, a second robbery was reported in the
6000 block of Garth Road at the TDCU Credit Union. Witnesses in this
robbery described the same vehicle and suspect as in the Texas First
Bank robbery. Witnesses also described last seeing the suspect and
his vehicle in the area of Garth Road and Interstate 10.
Responding officers established a perimeter in the area, which
encompassed a shopping center in the 6900 block of Garth Road. As
officers were checking the area for the suspect, one of our officers, a
five year veteran of the department, encountered the suspect hiding
behind a vehicle in the parking lot of Vision Source, which is located in
the shopping center. The suspect, upon seeing the officer, displayed a
handgun and pointed it at the officer at which time the officer
discharged his duty weapon at the suspect, missing the suspect. The
suspect then fled the area on foot and was seen by witnesses fleeing
the area in the same vehicle that was used in the robberies.
Our officers, who were already in the area, observed the suspect
vehicle traveling east on Interstate 10 and conducted a high risk stop
on the vehicle on the service road of Interstate 10 and Highway 146.
As a result the suspect was taken into custody without further
incident.
The suspect, identified as 32 year old Victor Luna of Baytown, is
currently being held in the Baytown Jail. Charges of Aggravated
Robbery and Aggravated Assault of Police Officer are pending on Mr.
Luna. Detectives are still investigating to determine if Mr. Luna may
be linked to any other robberies in Baytown or the surrounding area.
No one was injured as a result of the incident. The name of the officer
is not being released at this time.
