08.18.17 Psychiatric Emergency with Gunfire Thursday Night

Our officers responded to a suicidal subject who was mobile
in a vehicle and making threats that he had a gun and wanted
to harm himself or have officers do it. The subject was located
and officers attempted to stop him but he refused to stop. Our
officers backed off the vehicle in hopes that it would deescalate
the situation. However, the subject continued driving and with the threats,
ultimately coming to a stop on West Baker. As officers tried to make verbal
contact with the subject he attempted to flee again in his vehicle. Not
wanting the subject to become a mobile threat again, officers discharged
their firearms to deflate the tires and immobilize the vehicle. The subject
was able to make it to Baker and Decker where he came to a stop. SWAT
and Negotiators were called to the scene to deal with the now barricaded
subject in hisvwhicle. Negotiators were able to open a dialogue with the subject
and he surrendered without incident. It is unclear at this point if any charges
will be filed or if the subject will be transported to the Nuro Psychiatric Center for evaluation.
