09.17.17 Official Chambers County Sheriff’ Office Press Release: Man Who Jumped from Bridge

August 17, 2017

Sheriff Brian C. Hawthorne reports that on August 16 at approximately
2:00 a.m., a Chambers County Deputy observed a motorcycle, operated in an unsafe manner, westbound on interstate 10 near FM 3180 in Chambers County. When the deputy attempted to affect a traffic stop, the driver of the motorcycle exited I10 and turned southbound on SH 99 fleeing from the Deputy at speeds exceeding 100 m.p.h. When the motorcyclist approached FM 1405 he attempted to turn north but lost control and skidded in to the grassy area at the corner of SH 1499 and FM 1405. The driver regained control and continued southbound on SH 99 toward Baytown. The motorcyclist reached the Cedar Bayou bridge on SH 99 and as he approached the top of the bridge, he slowed his speed, jumped off the motorcycle and over the bridge railing.
Chambers County Sheriff’s Deputies, assisted by Baytown Police Department Officers, immediately began a search of Cedar Bayou in the area below the bridge. The suspect was identified as Jason Satchell, a 33 year old white male of the 2000 block of Sweet Bay, West Chambers County Estates in Baytown, Texas, landed in the grass/marsh area just east of the shoreline of Cedar Bayou. After Satchell was located he complained of back injuries, was assessed by EMS and flown via helicopter to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston. Satchell had a warrant for motion to revoke parole in Harris County and was booked in to the Harris County jail on August 16 with additional charges pending in Chambers County of evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
