07.06.17 Man Arrested for Burglary on July 4th

2017-39337 – On July 4th at 10:18 p.m., officers responded to a burglary in progress call
in the 500 block of Alford Street. Upon arrival officers contacted the complainant
who advised he had arrived at his residence and found the back door shattered
and thought he heard movement inside. While officers were investigating they heard
noise inside the residence and while checking the side of the residence
they observed an open second floor window and a blanket hanging out of it,
indicative of someone having crawled out the window. Officers also observed a possible
getaway vehicle parked on the street nearby, and it appeared someone was inside the vehicle
tapping on the brakes. Officers contacted the vehicle and identified the driver as 18 year old Apolonio Martinez Jr.
of Baytown. As officers attempted to talk with Apolonio Jr. he put the car in gear and drove off
at a high rate of speed. Officers gave chase and the suspect vehicle led them to the Palms Hotel
where the suspect was taken into custody. During this time the father of the suspect, Apolonio Martinez Sr.,
arrived on scene and was uncooperative with officers still conducting their investigation.
Officers attempted to place Mr. Martinez under arrest; however he continued to be uncooperative.
This led to a Taser deployment by one of the officers and ultimately placing Mr. Martinez under arrest.
Inside the vehicle officers located items that were determined to have come from the residence on Alford.
Both Martinez Sr. and Martinez Jr. were transported to the Baytown Jail where Martinez Jr.
was charged with Burglary of a Habitation and Martinez Sr. was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Failure to Identify
