03.17.17 Official BPD Press Releases — Car Pursuit and Armed Robbery

2017-16201 – On March 16th at 8:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Quality Inn located in the 5200 block of Interstate 10 in reference to a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival officers contacted the complainant who advised that 3 black males had entered the hotel, one of them brandishing a weapon, and demanding the money from the register. Once the suspects took the money out of the register they attempted to have the complainant open the safe, which she was unable to do. The suspects then fled the scene and got into a dark colored passenger car, possibly a Honda or Acura, and fled east on Interstate 10. The suspects were described as black males, two of them wearing hoodies, one black and one gray, the third suspect was wearing a black shirt. All three had their faces covered, one with a green bandana, one with part of the hood of his hoodie and the third possibly with a panty hose. Detectives are investigating. I do not have any stills or video at this time.

2017-16194 – On March 16th at 7:51 p.m., officer responded to Sears located in the 6900 block of Garth Road in reference to a shoplifting in progress. As officers arrived, the suspect was able to make it out of the store and to a vehicle. A black Range Rover. As the suspect fled the store in the vehicle he attempted to strike two patrol units with his vehicle and a pursuit was initiated. The suspect fled south on Garth Road to the church at the intersection of W Archer and Garth Rd. The suspect seeing that there was a ditch in front of him and an officer behind him, decided to ram one of the officers vehicles by backing into it. The suspect then drove forward into the ditch, and the vehicle got stuck in the water. The suspect attempted to flee from the vehicle at which time officers deployed a TASER, incapacitating the suspect. This caused the suspect to fall into the water filled ditch. Officers were able to pull the suspect out of the water clear the water. The suspect was transported to a Houston area hospital to be treated for water inhalation. It was also determined that the suspect, identified as 35 year old Jimmy Sherlock of Rosharon, was driving a stolen vehicle and also had 3 outstanding felony warrants out of Harris and Colorado Counties. Officers contacted the Harris County District Attorney’s office who accepted charges of Felony Theft, Felony Evading, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on the suspect. All Baytown officers are uninjured. The suspect, , has since been released from the hospital and is now in the Baytown Jail awaiting to be transferred to Harris County on the above charges.
