08.27.16 Drunk Driver Caused Major Accident

Today at approximately 4:55 pm, an officer was traveling east bound on East Texas Avenue responding to an accident on Ward Road when a gold Cadillac sedan sped by him west bound at an extremely high rate of speed. The officer made a U-turn in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop on the Cadillac. However, before the officer could catch up to the vehicle, the Cadillac went over the railroad tracks at West Texas Avenue and Commerce Street at a high rate of speed causing the Cadillac to go airborne. The driver of the Cadillac lost control of the vehicle and struck a parked vehicle in the 100 block of West Texas Avenue, causing it to be pushed into another parked vehicle. A citizen was standing between the two cars and suffered apparent broken bones in both of her legs. She was flown to a Houston hospital to be treated for her injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening. The driver of the Cadillac, 50 year old Jose Aguilera of Baytown, attempted to flee the scene of the accident on foot however, officers were able to apprehend him a short distance away without incident. Mr. Aguilera was transported to the Baytown Jail where officers consulted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and charges of Felony Failure to Stop and Render Aid and Driving While Intoxicated were accepted on Mr. Aguilera.
