08.26.16 School Lockdown/Suspect with Handgun Flees

My Project1

This morning at approximately 9:40 am, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of West Pearce and South Pruett. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and led the officers on a low speed pursuit, cutting through fields to elude officers. The officers lost sight of the vehicle briefly in the Oakwood Addition neighborhood, which is located to the south of Lee High School. Officers quickly located the vehicle in the 1200 block of Miriam Avenue, unoccupied. Witnesses in the area described seeing a black male, skinny build, wearing a white t shirt and black pants running from the car with a bag and a handgun in his hand. There were several officers in the area and a perimeter was quickly established. Due to the fact that the suspect was seen with a handgun, the schools in the area were placed on lockdown while officers attempted to locate the suspect. After an extensive search of the area by officers, as well as K-9 units, we were unable to locate the suspect. There was no indication that the suspect made it to the area of the schools based on our officers immediately securing that area upon setting up the perimeter.  At his time the lockdown has been lifted and all clear given. Officers are investigating to identify the driver of the vehicle.
