12.10.15 Auto Pedestrian Fatality on Massey Thompkins

Baytown’s emergency personnel responded to the scene of an anto-pedestrian accident that resulted in a fatality on Thursday night, December 10, 2015. In this video you will hear a statement from Assistant Baytown Police Chief Roger Clifford and from a friend of the victim.

12.11.15 Official Baytown Police Press Release: Yesterday at 6:22 p.m., a 53 year old transient man was struck and killed by a motorist after he walked into a lane of traffic in the 3600 block of Massey Tompkins. The victim was visiting a friend on the south side of the roadway and was going to walk across the street to inspect a washing machine that was for sale in a resident’s yard. The victim attempted to cross five lanes of moderately busy traffic, in low-light and not at an intersection, by walking north to the other side when he was struck by a westbound Toyota minivan. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene; his name is being withheld until next of kin is notified. The driver of the minivan stopped after the impact, showed no signs of intoxication and was cooperative with our investigation. The driver’s blood is being tested for the presence of drugs and alcohol. No charges have been filed at this time.
